Ocean Space Acoustics (OSAC) was founded in 2018 as a spin-off from SINTEF, originally addressing ghost fishing – a major source of marine plastic pollution, biodiversity loss and economic losses in the fisheries sector.
Today, OSAC develops hydroacoustic technology for fisheries, aquaculture, environmental monitoring and marine research, with a common goal: providing better control, increased operational safety and a cleaner ocean.
Our core technology, PingMe™, enables wireless positioning, monitoring and communication below the surface. By making fishing gear, sensor platforms, aquaculture structures and other subsea equipment traceable, PingMe helps users monitor critical assets, detect movement and recover equipment that might otherwise be lost.
In addition to positioning, the technology provides measurements of current, temperature and depth, delivering valuable ocean data for aquaculture operations, environmental monitoring and research. PingMe can also support monitoring of submerged aquaculture structures, moorings and sensor platforms, and provide an independent means of locating valuable subsea equipment such as ROVs and scientific instruments.
Across these applications, OSAC works toward the same objective: better knowledge of what happens below the surface, better control of underwater assets, reduced risk of equipment loss and cleaner oceans.
