Welcome to Ocean Plastic International Matchmaking
Ocean Plastic International Matchmaking (OPIM) is an annual online event bringing together stakeholders from across the ocean plastic value chain to share knowledge, explore innovative solutions, and build new partnerships. We are currently preparing the 7th edition OPIM, and more information about the 2026 event will be shared soon.
In the meantime, you can explore highlights and key outcomes from previous OPIM events below.
Previous years
OPIM 2025
Last year, OPIM 2025 brought together over 80 participants from 22 countries for a full day dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and solutions to ocean plastic pollution.
With more than 50 pre-booked meetings between startups, researchers, NGOs and investors, OPIM 2025 proved once again to be a unique platform for connecting actors across the ocean plastic value chain. From emerging deep-tech tools to scalable circular economy models, the event highlighted how partnerships and new ideas are already shaping the future of cleaner seas.
Highlights included keynote presentations by Seabed 2030 and WWF, who explored how open data, AI and robotics are transforming marine protection and detection of ghost gear. In the Innovative Ideas Session, participants heard cutting-edge pitches on mapping technologies, material traceability, and plastic valorisation, followed by expert feedback and networking opportunities.
OPIM 2024
In 2024, OPIM explored the critical connection between macroplastics and microplastics, highlighting innovation and collaboration as key drivers in the fight against ocean plastic pollution. Bringing together stakeholders from more than 15 countries, the event provided a platform for expert insights, groundbreaking solutions, and meaningful discussions on tackling microplastics.
Leading researchers from Aalborg University and SINTEF shared the latest advancements in microplastic research and mitigation strategies, offering valuable knowledge on how to address this growing environmental challenge. The Innovation Ideas Accelerator showcased visionary startups presenting next-generation solutions for plastic collection, filtration, and recycling, with expert panel feedback helping refine their technologies and market potential.
Alongside these sessions, over 40 pre-booked B2B meetings fostered new partnerships and collaboration opportunities across the plastic value chain, connecting key players dedicated to advancing sustainable solutions.
